Annual Catalogue Excitement!

Well  the launch of Stampin' Up!'s 2013-2014 Annual Catalogue is less than two weeks away and having already seen what is in store for you guys I'm just bursting with excitement!!

As you know I was lucky enough to get a look at the new catalogue SUPER early when Shelli gave us a copy at Convention a few weeks ago. One of the great perks of being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator is being able to view catalogues about a month earlier than everyone else. This is usually online until your copy arrives with your pre order which is another fantastic perk - ordering and receiving new products before everyone else :) However by attending Convention we were able to get our hands on a copy a week earlier than the demonstrators who were unable to attend.... how AWESOME right??

So what's my point you may be asking. Well after going through the catalogue more times than I care to admit, I can honestly tell you there are some amazing new products on offer for all the Stampin' Up! fans out there. We have all seen the Colour Refresh which was announced a couple of months ago with lots of lovely new colours to play with but did you know we will get 5 more with new 2013-2015 In Colours, which will be available in the new catalogue?

Now we had a bit of a play with some of these at Convention and you would have seen a few of them on the Make & Takes I showed you in a post a couple of weeks ago but since receiving my new ink pads and card stock in the pre order I'm even more in love with them. Imagine all the new colour combos we will have to choose from!

On top of that there are lots of new Stamp Sets, a few new Punches, some new Framelits and Embossing Folders plus heaps of accessories like buttons, ribbon and of course Designer Series Paper. There is also a fabulous new product called Simply Pressed Clay which is already on back order as it's been SO popular with the demonstrators. I was lucky enough to get some in my pre order so if you would love to check it out be sure to come along to my Annual Catalogue Launch Party. Do you like the invite I made for you all in My Digital Studio?

I know it's pretty simple but I love how it turned out. For someone as technologically challenged as myself, it's a surprise I managed to get one made at all!! Just goes to show if I can do it anyone can :)

So who wants to join me in getting my craft on? It will be a wonderful afternoon with some special offers, a make and take or two, door prizes, yummy refreshments plus a goodie bag (containing the new catalogue) to take home. If you bring a friend who is new to Stampin' Up! and you can choose a prize. Book a workshop and/or place an order on the day for an added bonus too. It is definitely an event you don't want to miss. If you would like to come along and be a part of the excitement please contact me by 26th June. Looking forward to seeing you all there!

Fun Folds

Hey Sminkers, how are you all? Staying warm I hope! Our 4 year old is battling a cold at the moment so our house is not the most enjoyable environment right now. He's tired, miserable and totally bored. I'm crossing my fingers I don't catch it. The plan is to not think about it and hopefully it won't happen...so lets talk cards :)

On the weekend I had my Fun Folds class. It was one I had been wanting to do for a while and although it was a small class we still had a blast! We made four cards, all with different folding techniques, and it was great fun to mix it up and create something completely different to what we usually do. One of the definite favourites on the day was this one;

This one is called a Gate Fold card which can be done in lots of different ways however this is probably the easiest. I have used several of the products from the Seasonal Catalogue which finishes on June 30th so if there is anything you love and can't live without be sure to get it before then. The card base is cut from Melon Mambo card stock (20cms x 14.8cms scored at 5cms and 15cms on the 20cm side) and I have used the Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper for the panels (14.3cms x 4.5cms) on the front. I cut out a piece of Whisper White card stock using the Labels Collection Framelits then ran it through the Big Shot in the Cloudy Day Embossing Folder. Using some more Sunshine and Sprinkles DSP I made the pinwheel using the Pinwheel Sizzlit and a Brights Brad in Marina Mist. I then adhered this to the Whisper White card stock, attached a toothpick and greeting using the Itty Bitty Banners Stamp Set and Bitty Banners Framelits. The Whisper White piece was then attached to the left hand panel with Snail and that's it. I also adhered a piece of Whisper White card stock on the inside of the card to write on. Super simple card but so fun and playful at the same time.

The next one we made was my favourite of them all, the Joy Fold card. This one was a bit more involved with lots of layers but I was really happy with the final product. If you would like the dimensions for the card stock and DSP send me an email and I will forward them to you. I have used Island Indigo and Daffodil Delight card stock, Summer Smooches DSP and the really cute Moving Forward Stamp Set. What do you think?

After this one we moved onto the Side Spring card. For this one we used Lucky Limeade and Wisteria Wonder cardstock and the DSP was from the retired Festival of Prints DSP stack. I used the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die, some Vellum and the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. The original sample I made didn't have the Wisteria Wonder matting under the DSP and it didn't look quite finished but I'm much happier with it now I've tweaked it a little bit. You'll also noticeI didn't put a sentiment on this one because I like to have some cards ready to go that I can send last minute and choose an appropriate sentiment at the time. Here's a picture for you.

So last but definitely not least we made the Twisted Card. Now I first saw this type of fold at Convention last month when I received a few as swaps and I was loving how they could double as a gift card holder. I must admit it looked quite complicated but once I watched the tutorial I found online by Patsy Waggoner it definitely made more sense. If you would like to view this video you can find it here. I chose to use Soft Suede card stock for the base and Comfort Café DSP, Very Vanilla, Cajun Craze and Summer Starfruit card stock  to co ordinate with it. I also used the Blossom punch for the flower and the Designer Naturals Buttons and Linen Thread to finish it off. I'd love to know what you think.

Do you like the colours? I'm not usually a fan of brown tones but I really loved this DSP when it was released last year. It also has some great patterns  and colours which are perfect for masculine cards so you might see it a bit more in my Fathers Day class in August. As you can see I have left the sentiment off this one also as I just don't have a specific use for it as yet. There is enough room however to stamp a sentiment above the pocket and heaps of space for a personal message on the opposite side. I can definite see myself making more of these to keep on hand for people I usually give gift cards to. Hmm maybe I better get some Christmas ones happening also. Anyway I hope you like what I have shown you today. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Embellished Events

Good Evening Sminkers

While I eagerly await the arrival of my pre order, I thought I would share some of my past creations I haven't yet posted. I'll start with the class I ran last month where we focused on one of my favourite stamp sets called Embellished Events.

This stamp set is so versatile and therefore great for anyone who is just starting their stamping journey as it is able to cater for many occasions like birthdays, Christmas, weddings, and new babies to name a few. With both images and sentiments included, the only other supplies you need would be some inkpads or Stampin' Write markers plus some cardstock and you can whip up a card in no time.
This first card I fell in love with the moment I saw it in the current Annual Catalogue then after seeing this colour combo by Dawn Olchefske during a Google search I knew I had to CASE it. I made a few slight changes with the size of the matting plus the position of the sentiment and was really happy with the way it turned out...the In Colour Dahlias just finish it off perfectly! Then I set about creating another version this time using the flower shaped buttons from the Brights Designer Buttons to show how it can be adapted to use buttons. It would also look just as lovely using markers to create different coloured flowers if you didn't want to use the dahlias or buttons.

The little flower pot is made using the 1 3/8 inch square punch, word window punch and Crumb Cake cardstock. I took the square, went a couple of millimetres in at the bottom and cut on an angle to the top corner. I did this on both sides, snipped the curved bits off the word window and then adhered that to the top of the pot with some Snail. I stamped the image in Gumball Green onto Whisper White cardstock and then adhered the pot to the base of the image. Add your In Colour Dahlias or flower buttons and rhinestones and that's pretty much it. I added a linen thread bow to the pot and then applied it to the rest of the card. So simple!! Can you see what I mean about being versatile? Leave a comment below and let me know which is you favourite. I can't decide, I think I love them both.

The next card was also super simple and was CASED from Mary Fish who made it in Primrose Petals from memory. I just changed it to one of my favourite colours at the moment, Midnight Muse and also altered the sentiment from a banner to the Modern Label punch and Word Window punch. It's just perfect for any celebratory occasion where a Congratulations is in order. The glasses were stamped in Sahara Sand ink, one directly onto the Whisper White Cardstock and the other onto a scrap piece. I then fussy cut the one on the scrap piece and layered it slightly over the other glass and popped it up on some Dimensionals. Add the rhinestones, ribbon and adhere to the card base you are done.

Now the next card did create a little concern for me as it was only May when we did the class and I wasn't sure if I should include a Christmas card this early in the year but I wanted to showcase as much of the Embellished Events stamp set as I could. In the end I thought the ladies would appreciate having one Christmas card ready to go and went ahead. I think it turned out great and is simple enough to create a large amount of should you need to.
Now we are always in need of birthday cards and I set about designing a nice bright, cheery one using some of the Floral District Designer Series Paper (DSP). I incorporated the colours of the DSP into the stamped image by using the Stampin' Write Markers and applied them direct to the stamp. I then gave it a bit of a huff to remoisten the ink and stamped it onto Whisper White cardstock. It turned out way better than I expected. What do you think?

Speaking of birthdays I have something in the pipeline I will be announcing at my Annual Catalogue Launch on the 6th July. If you would like to come along for an afternoon of inky fun and games, see and play with new products plus enjoy some yummy refreshments then contact me and I will forward you all the details. If you can't make it be sure to check back after the Launch Party to find out what's happening and join in the excitement.

Well back to cards. The lucky last one I have to show you is a baby card. Now this one has everything I love at the moment, pink and green colour scheme (Pink Pirouette and Certainly Celery) and of course banners. I'm just mad about them and use them whenever I can.

I created this card using the Stampin' Write markers once again (Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Crumb Cake) to ink up the little duck. I stamped this onto Whisper White cardstock then inked up the sentiment which I got from the Sweet Essentials stamp set in Certainly Celery and stamped it below the image. The banners were cut out of some scrap cardstock and DSP using the Bitty Banners Framelits. I love it when I can use up some scraps...good for the environment and my ever growing scrap pile. I also used the Lacy Brocade embossing folder on the Pink Pirouette cardstock which will be retiring soon. I'll be sad to see this folder go, it's so beautiful. If you would like to get one before they go or anything else I have shown you just head over to my online store.

I hope I have given you some ideas and inspiration for using this set if you already have it in your stash or at least made you want to go out and buy it :) Have a great week!

Swallowtail Part 2

Hey Sminkers

Remember back in January when I was making samples for the launch of the Seasonal Catalogue and I said that I had made another Swallowtail card for the birthday of a close friend (her name is Sara by the way). Well now her birthday has been so I can show you her birthday card and the gift bag I made to match. So here they are;

What do you all think? It's very similar to the one I showed you previously as Sara was the main inspiration for the original card. Island Indigo and Pool Party are two of her favourite colours and she just happens to love butterflies too. Apologies about the photo of the bag, it was too big for my photo box. I'm so happy the Swallowtail stamp is carrying over to the new catalogue and Island Indigo and Pool Party are now part of the core colour range. I will definitely miss the Two Tags Bigz Die and the Curly Cute stamp set I used to create the gift tag. They are two of my favourite products so will be keeping them in my personal stash for sure. If you would like to get your hands on either of these items from the Retirement List, get in quick as I'm sure they won't last too long. See the Retirement List here.

Look how easy it is to create a co-ordinated gift bag to match a lovely homemade card. Only problem I ran into was I made the card and then realised it didn't fit in the square envelopes I had on hand but she loved it regardless. I'm going to make some more of these in various colours to keep on hand for some other birthdays I have coming up later in the year. Simple yet effective and most of all made with love. Thanks for stopping by!

Convention - Day 2 & 3

Well I'm finally back to tell you about Convention and to avoid further disruptions I will tell you all about Day 2 and 3 in the one post, but in not as much detail.

So Day 2 kicked off with another General Session. Aaron Scott, Business Development Manager at the Sydney Office, gave us some business updates plus some sales and recruiting facts and figures. We then had some stamping from Shelli, sneak peeks of new products, some more giveaways and then we all headed off to our business classes.

My two morning classes flew by as they were jam packed with all the information I really needed. Then it was time for a quick lunch then off to the My Digital Studio class. As I had opted to do the 3 business classes it meant I only had about 40 minutes to do my make & takes after the MDS class finished. I managed to get the notecards done and I plan to finish the others when my pre order arrives next week. I used the new Hello, Lovely stamp set we received for FREE at Convention along with some of the new colours which are just beautiful. Here's a sneak peak;

So what do you think? Leave me a comment and let me know which is your favourite new colour. I'm loving them all at the moment and with the new Colour Coach we received as a freebie at Convention also, working out which colours co ordinate together will be a breeze. I'll share the other make & takes once I have them finished.

By the end of day 2 I was totally exhausted and opted to give the Awards Night and After Party a miss and get an early night. I needed all the energy I could muster for the last day!

So I started Day 3 with two more business classes, then went off to the Demonstrator Theatre where some demonstrators shared with us some awesome projects they had created with products from the new catalogue. They were all so inspirational and super talented. Once finished I went off to quickly have lunch before we went into our last General Session.

It began with Rich Jutkins, President & COO, give one of the most amazing speeches...I even shed a tear and I can assure you I wasn't the only one. Then we saw some wonderful projects created by Shannon West and Sophie Zadeh before Shelli gave her closing speech. Then it was over..I had experienced my first Stampin' Up! Convention and loved every minute! I can honestly say if it's that much fun every year I'll be there for sure. Well I hope you have enjoyed hearing all about my adventure. Next year it's in Melbourne so who wants to come along and join me?

Make A Digital Statement Tour 2013

Well I spoke too soon...I have another update for you!

My Digital Studio (or MDS as we affectionately call it) is Stampin' Up!'s digital design software which features all of their exclusive artwork, colours and templates. Although it has been available to the North American market for a few years, it was only released in Australia a couple of months ago.

Now to be honest, even though I have longed to have MDS for a while now, it still secretly scared me the pants off me. I had attempted to use other digital design programs before and just felt way out of my depth. I loved the ideas and the projects that digital designing was capable of producing but with me being so technologically challenged, I cringed at the thought of trying to get the knack of it.

That was until I did a class at Convention called MDS...YES!!! run by the lovely Shannon West from the Home Office in Utah. It was in that class that we learnt how to create a birthday card, step by step. Although I didn't have my laptop with me in the class, I left feeling more confident and upon returning home I gave it a go. Now I'm not going lie, I did have a minor hiccup but I definitely found it much easier than my previous attempts with Photoshop.

So why am I telling you all this? Well Stampin' Up! wants all us to have the confidence and knowledge to venture into the wonderful world of digital design and is therefore launching their 'Make A Digital Statement Tour 2013'. The Perth event will be held at the Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre on Saturday 24th August from 9am - 1pm. It costs $35 and includes the full version of the MDS software which is fabulous value as to purchase the software alone is almost $25. I'm super excited to be able to go along and further my knowledge of MDS and I would love all of you to join me. You can find more information about the event here.

Now if you do register to come along and can get your software downloaded and installed before the event, I will provide you with a copy of the Birthday Card step by step instructions we recieved at Convention to help you get know MDS a little more before the class. If you are wondering what it looked like, here it is;

So take the plunge, come along with me to the 'Make a Digital Statement Tour 2013' and discover how My Digital Studio and digital design can fit into your life and how fun and easy it can be!

Woo Hoo...New Stamps!

Hello Sminkers

As part of Stampin' Up!'s 25-year anniversary celebrations, they are bringing back some of their favourite stamp images from the last quarter century and combining them into 11 sets, which will release—one set per month—until April 2014. Even better, along with some great classic images, each "Best of" set will also include a never-before-seen image! Here are some things to remember when considering these stamp sets;
  • All Best of stamp sets will include 3-5 images, including a never-before seen image, and will be priced at $25.95.
  • While Stampin' Up! are releasing just one Best of stamp set per month (with a new theme each month) for the next 11 months, all of the Best of sets will be available until April 2014
  • All Best of stamp sets are available in Clear-Mount only.
  • The stamp images may be sized differently from the original stamp sets.
If that wasn't enough, Stampin' Up are also offering five single-image stamps for you to choose from! These are available from now until 31 August 2013 (or while stocks last). Check out the flyer's for both promotions below. If you prefer you can download the PDF for the "Best Of" stamps here and "Single Stamps" here. If you would like to place an order for any of these goodies feel free to contact me by phone or email or alternatively visit my online store. Now I have all the promotions out of the way (hopefully) I can get back to telling you about the rest of Convention. Come back later for my post about Day 2.

Convention 2013 - Day 1

We had an early start on the Thursday morning as we had more swapping to do before the General Session started at 9.30am. My first General Session was awesome! It started with an opening address from Shelli Gardner (CEO and Co Founder of Stampin' Up!) welcoming us all, talking about the 25th Anniversary of Stampin' Up!, how it all began and how much it has grown in that time. She went on to talk about the theme of this years Convention.."Be the Difference". She was so lovely and gracious, I seriously could have listened to her talk all day...she is just amazing and totally inspirational.

For many years in the US, there has been a special stamp set produced each year and for each one sold Stampin' Up! donated $3 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. During General Session, Shelli announced that this program would be extending to all of Stampin' Up!'s markets and also a Demonstrator volunteer program would be set up where demonstrators could volunteer to help out at the Ronald McDonald houses in their local area. The announcement also came with a couple of surprises... an all attendee giveaway being the Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp set (which will be available in the new catalogue) and also Ronald McDonald himself! As you can imagine everyone went crazy and in a room of almost 700 people (mostly women) that makes for a very loud yet very exciting atmosphere.

Once everyone had their stamp set and Make and Take pack we all settled down again to listen to Brian Pilling, a Demonstrator Training Manager at the Home Office in Utah. He told about some exciting products heading our way in the Holiday Catalogue which is due out in Australia on 1st September. There were definitely alot of ohhh 's and ahhh's in the room when we he pulled a few of them out and demonstrated them. Then he announced another all attendee giveaway which made the whole room erupt again.

Once the freebies were handed out and everyone had settled again Bonnie Thurber came out to demonstrate some of the new products and show the projects she had made with them. Shelli has said earlier that they would be showcasing 25 projects to celebrate the 25 years of Stampin' Up! so each person would be doing five. So Bonnie kicked it off with projects one through to five. I hadn't really heard of Bonnie before Convention but within 10 minutes of her starting I was laughing so hard...she was just hilarious! I really wish I could have just packed her into my suitcase and brought her home with me.

Once Bonnie had finished it was time for Ngaire Anderson (my great grandma in the Stampin' Up world) to demonstrate some Workshop WOW's and she chose to showcase the Dress Up framelits. This lady is super talented and her projects were just amazing! This one she had used the wrappers from Ferrero Rocher chocolates!

Shelli then came out again to close the first General Session and gave us an awesome surprise...a copy of the new Annual Catalogue and everyone went nuts again! Once we had our catalogue we sped off to Memento Mall to see what goodies they had there for us. For those who don't know Memento Mall sells exclusive Stampin' Up! branded merchandise and business tools which everyone just goes crazy for and this year was no exception. They had a limit of 1 per item to begin with so I gathered up everything that wanted and then lined up for about an hour to pay and exit. Here is a pic of some of my stash.

Once we were finally out of there, we went and grabbed some lunch and then headed off to the Product Playground to play with some new products. We also spent time completing our Service Project, cards made using the Ronald McDonald Charity stamp set which would be given to the Ronald McDonald houses to use as needed. I also signed up to be a volunteer and help out where I could with the local Ronald McDonald houses in Perth. I'm really so excited to have the opportunity to be able to help this amazing charity and can't wait to get started.

The afternoon ended with another General Session where Amy Swartz, Vice President of Sales from the Home Office in Utah, talked about colour trends and the recent colour renovation. We then had some stamping from Donna Griffiths, some info from Emma Parkin-Wilson who is the Country Manager in New Zealand in regards to My Digital Studio, some more giveaways and then we wrapped up for the day. They advised us the limits had been lifted in Memento Mall so I rushed back there for a few more things only to be stuck in line for another hour. By the time we left Memento Mall it was 6.30pm and I was ready to go back to the apartment have some dinner and then head to bed. All in all it was a fabulous first day! Check back soon for my post about Day 2.
